Short Answer Responses


Choose FIVE of the following eight questions to answer. Cite specific examples from the short stories we read.
  1. Which story best highlights the corrupting power of greed?
  2. Which story paints the bleakest portrait of poverty? 
  3. What are two insight’s Rosa gains in her role as a maid to a wealthy family in “The Maid's Story”? 
  4. Which story exemplifies the notion that you can sometimes have TOO much money? 
  5. Which character is most keenly aware of his or her poverty? Conversely, which character is most blissfully unaware of his or her wealth?
  6. In “The Stolen Party,” what is the “reality check” that Rosaura is hit with—and how does it impact her?
  7. In "Job History," how do Leeland's series of jobs explain his social class standing?
  8. Which story depressed you the most—and why?
It is not necessary to answer questions in numerical order, BUT please clearly indicate which question you are answering. Again, the expectation is that you will quote from the stories.
